FAQs
How long does an EICR take to complete?
A typical EICR inspection takes 2-4 hours for an average3-bedroom property. The duration depends on the size of the property, age of the electrical installation, and accessibility of circuits. Our qualified electricians work efficiently while maintaining thorough testing standards.
What's included in an EICR inspection?
Our EICR includes visual inspection of all electrical installations, testing of circuits, sockets, switches, and consumer units. We check earthing arrangements, RCD functionality, and insulation resistance. You'll receive a comprehensive report with any defects categorized and recommendations for remedial work.
Do I need a new EICR for change of tenancy?
If your current EICR is less than 5 years old and shows satisfactory results, you typically don't need a new one for change of tenancy. However, we recommend reviewing the report with new tenants and ensuring any previous recommendations have been addressed.
How long will the electrician be on-site?
Our electrician will typically be on-site for 2-4 hours for a standard residential property. Larger properties or those with complex electrical systems may require additional time. We'll provide an estimated timeframe when booking your appointment.
What access do you need for the inspection?
We need access to all areas of the property including the consumer unit, all rooms with electrical outlets, loft spaces, and any outbuildings with electrical supply. Please ensure clear access to electrical panels and remove any stored items blocking electrical equipment.
How often do landlords need EICR inspections?
Landlords must have EICR inspections every 5 years or at change of tenancy if more than 5 years have passed. New tenancies require an EICR that's less than 5 years old. We recommend keeping digital copies and setting calendar reminders for renewal dates.
What happens if remedial work is needed?
If we identify any issues, we'll provide a detailed report with categorized defects (C1, C2, C3, or FI). We can quote for any necessary remedial work on the spot. Critical issues (C1/C2) should be addressed immediately, while C3 items can be planned for future improvement.
How much does an EICR cost?
EICR costs vary based on property size and complexity. Our standard residential EICR starts from £150 for a 1-2 bedroom property. We provide transparent, upfront pricing with no hidden fees. Contact us for a personalized quote based on your specific requirements.
Which areas do you cover?
Voltsage provides EICR services across London and surrounding areas including North London, South London, East London, West London, and selected areas in Essex, Hertfordshire, and Surrey. Contact us to confirm coverage for your specific location.
